1979 Ex Royal Mail Post Office Puch Moped in Post Office Red.

Bikes such as this were specially made for Post Office and Telegram workers. Distinguishing Post Office features are the special Post Office Frame Number stamped onto the bike. Other features were that the post office models were fitted with 2 speed gears. Another is that on all post office vehicles the recommended tyre pressures are stamped or labelled on the mudguards.

Originally this Post Office model was owned by Truro Post Office for Telegram and Letter deliveries. Since 1983 it has been in private ownership forming part of a collection of mopeds, the owner of which intended to set up a museum of rare bikes.

Following privatisation of the Royal Mail, demand for Classic Post Office vehicles became even more popular at classic shows as many of the vehicles were quickly destroyed or sold off after use.

At the 2014 Bath and West Classic Motorcycle Show in the main arena there was a stand with a couple of different Post Office Mopeds and they raised quite some interest as these are now becoming very sought after.

The model for sale is not only rare, but also has some additional features meaning it was probably better looked after than standard issue models. 

Features:

• Fitted with a fire extinguisher.
• Includes a first aid box. Inside there is a small pouch stamped 'Post Office First Aid Kit'. When opened it is still full of bandages and first aid items.
• The sadddle bags panniers are a nice addition with reflectors on the back for those late night special deliveries.
• The bike is completely original with leg shields intact.
• Included with this bike is the V5C and service and maintenance manuals and a copy of the original post office registration document.

This is a good investment classic.
