1966 Raleigh RM12 Super 50 Super Rare, Desirable Moped
SORRY YOU MISSED THIS ONE - NOW SOLD
This is the creme de le creme of the Raleigh Moped Collection. The model everyone wants because it is more stylish and faster than the Raleigh Runabout, and the last in the set of the RM range.
Being the last in the Raleigh Moped range and only produced for a short time serious collectors tend to keep hold of them and you rarely see them for sale. Models come up occasionaly, and can change hands for thousands of pounds depending on condition. Many get exported and command even higher prices.
The Raleigh RM12 Super 50 model, has higher compression, better carburettor, improved braking / suspension, lowered handlebars, sports seating and chrome mudguards. This was Raleigh's last attempt to produce a seriously cool looking moped and you can see how the styling may have later inspired the likes of the Yamaha Fs1E.
Highlights
- This RM12 was owned by a Farmer in Somerset and his wife had a Raleigh Wisp
- The bike had been left in the corner of a dry barn covered in mud for many years and is now in need of restoring
- I have only attempted light cleaning of the Moped to demonstrate what the potential is should someone spend alot more work on it.
- The engine will need freeing, and I have made no attempt to do this. The Carburettor will also need replacing as is not complete
- There is an old V55/5 and tax disc so the number will need to be applied for to keep. I have not done this and did not want to add an owner on the bike.
- The Front Wheel needs rebuilding. The Rear is much better. New rims are available from Classic Moped Spares and wheels for this model we have built before.
- The headlight is present too often the lens fell out or these were damaged.
- The bike has its original tank badges, there are some awful scanned in copies about so nice to see the originals intact.
- The side tool covers are present and there are even some old tools inside which is nice to see
Summary
- The bike is priced reasonably to reflect its condition. Hopefully some one will do a good job restoring it and save another of these rare bikes.
- Collection only.
