A charming Velo Solex 5000 model in Orange/White. Original French Surfer's mode of transport!

Surfboard not Included!

The 5000 engine number confirms that this bike would have been made between January 1973 and and January 1974. The frame is the model Solex 5000 retro squarish design

More information about me and these type of bikes can be found from my youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzBaNaGlTZU

Some Observations

- The bike has been officially imported by Classic Moped Spares into the Uk and the NOVA documentation done, and a NOVA certificate will be given to the winning bidder.

- The bike had been dry stored in a French Barn for a number of years and is only for sale to make way for a few more!

- This bike is in good condition for age and looks like it was previously owned by a surfer! I can imagine this on the back of a camper van on the way to Brittany or similar french coastal resorts.

  • - This Solex runs a treat which can be seen if you click on our video link. After 50 years, a bit of fresh fuel mixed with Morris Two Stroke Oil (sold separately) and a push the bike pulled away well and was a delight to ride. I am not quite sure how you would ride with a surfboard in hand so I gave it a test ride without the board. Click here
  • - The Solex has much original patina so it is personal choice on whether to restore it or keep it as it is.
  • - The Front and Rear Lights lens are not present which is ok unless you want to be out and about at night. Replacement lights are available from Classic Moped Spares.
  • - When pedaling the freewheel just spins not engaging the rear wheel so this will require some attention; it does show how easy the bike starts with just a push.
  • - The rear tool box is present complete with a Surfing Australia sticker. Who knows maybe the bike has traveled a bit!

Parts

  • This should offer an easy entry level bike into the Classic Moped / Motorcycle Scene. The engine which fits over the front wheel can be easily worked on without the requirement of lifting benches and specialist equipment. Parts that you need can easily be obtained in the Uk from Classic Moped Spares.
  • Many classic bikes over the time if the engine and carburettor has been stood then fuel filters, pipes and carburettors are an area to look at cleaning or replacing first so this would be a good place to start and these can be obtained from Classic Moped Spares at reasonable prices.
  • Should you also wish to restore this or any other Solex to a higher level then specialist items including chrome parts and performance enhancing spares are also available.

Documentation

  • The Nova paperwork has been completed by us professionaly and has been processed with HMRC. Should you wish to register the bike in the Uk this is now a straight forward process and help can be found using one of the UK autocycle clubs such as the NACC. An age related number plate should then be issued by the DVLA based on the model year

Some more information about the history of this model is below:-

After a decline in sales of the 3800 models the directors decided upon launching the 5000 model in 1971. The 5000 was aimed at the young and old market and this model in particular highlights that back in the 70's it was a choice of youngsters and this model in particular a cool surfer dude from France.

The Solex had a Soubitez headlight attached to the handlebar and a rear plastic Solex bumper of the rear baggage carrier

From the Super Deluxe 3800 models the 5000 was fitted with white fuel tank and flywheel cover

The frame had the same concept of the 3800, but adapted for smaller wheels (2 x 16 inch in black or whitewall: Replacement tyres are still available in 2-16 size or whitewall in slightly larger 2.25-16)

The tool box was now located under the seat.

The motor is the same as the 3800, the lifting done by means of a crank with a plastic ball screwed on the end.

The fenders are made of stainless steel

- Weight 28Kg, price in 1971: 529F
