1958 LE VELOCETTE Motorcycle MkIII (MK3) Restored, Tax, MOT. SOLD

In 1958, Velocette launched the Mk III LE with a foot operated gear change and a conventional kick start. An extra gear was added, together with 18-inch-diameter (460mm) wheels. The instrumentation was relocated to the head lamp, and the petrol capacity was increased from a meagre 1.25 gallons to 1.62 gallons.

With ten years development, the Velocette LE was more reliable and practical, but in 1970 the company went into voluntary liquidation. Production of other motorcycles had been delayed or canceled to produce the LE in various forms, and the lucrative police orders had dried up with the introduction of the Panda car for patrol use by most forces. Metropolitan Police Officers of the time were trained to salute an Inspector or above, but when riding the Velocette LE this meant taking one hand from the handle bars, so it was agreed that instead they could nod to show respect. The police riders therefore became known as Noddies and the LE was nicknamed the Noddy Bike.

About this motorcycle:

• Has been restored to a very high standard.
• Paintwork in original colours.
• Saddle original and in good condition.
• Many original parts, but also new switches and wiring.
• Registered after restoration in 2002.
• The last model was made in 1970 with a serial number 9000.
• This would suggest that this machine was first made in 1958 or later.
• The bike has a kick starter which was fitted to models from 1958.
• Taxed and MOT Good tyres nearly new.
• Very good paintwork very good.
• Have cleaned out carburettor and put an inline fuel filter in situ.
• Runs well, but as with most machines of this age expect to have to adjust/tinker with it.
• Odometer reading 25,000 miles (do not know if genuine).
